Assist with larger programming projects and requests in collaboration with the Recreation Sport Supervisor.

Facilitate intramural, drop-in, and special programs.

Ensure an inclusive, belonging, and respectful culture for participants and staff.

Lead the facilitation of the All Captains meeting.

Assist Intramural Leads with administration of programming.

Lead Intramural Staff training, mentoring, and evaluation of officials/scorekeepers.

Review and follow up on Intramural Lead Nightly Reports and Officials Reports.

Meet weekly with Intramural Leads to support and mentor.

Support self-evaluations of Intramural Staff.

Communicate effectively with internal and external partners and the Recreational Sport Supervisor.

Promote intramural activities and programs on campus through promotional activities as requested.

About the Role

Working within the Cougars Athletics and Recreation, this is a flexible position whose work schedule is variable and may include an irregular schedule of not less than three (3) hours per shift and up to thirty-five (35) hours per week. Reporting to the Recreational Sports Supervisor, the Intramural & Unique Programs Assistant is responsible for assisting with administrative tasks associated with sections of the Intramural portfolio including, intramurals, drop in sports, and special programs. Within these areas tasks will center around aspects of preparation, administration, and facilitation for programs. This in-person position will include a mix of weekday daytime and evening shifts. While primarily located at MRU Recreation, some drop-in and special program shifts operate at the Flames Community Arena and other off-campus locations and a personal vehicle is preferred for transporting themselves and/or equipment.

  • Support the Recreation Sport Supervisor with the operation and facilitation of intramural, drop in, and special programs
  • Ensure that the culture of CAR intramurals is one of inclusion, belonging, and respect for all participants and staff members
  • Lead the facilitation of the All Captains meeting Staff Supervision and Mentorship (30%)
  • Assist the Intramural Leads with administration of programing
  • Lead the Intramural Staff training, mentoring, and evaluating officials/scorekeepers
  • Review and follow up on Intramural Lead Nightly Reports and Officials Reports
  • Meet weekly with the Intramural Leads to support and mentor
  • Support the self evaluations of Intramural Staff General and as needed duties (10%)
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external partners, and Recreational Sport Supervisor
  • Act as Cougars Athletics and Recreation ambassadors by promoting intramural activities and programs on campus through promotional activities as requested by the Recreational Sports Supervisor (classroom info sessions, Main Street, drop-in sports, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned by the Recreational Sports Supervisor

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be willing to work with minimal supervisory assistance as well as part of a team
  • Willingness to lead, train, and mentor officials and scorekeepers
  • Willingness to be creative and provide feedback and ideas in a collaborative manner
  • Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal skills
  • Open attitude to working with a diverse population and considering all when programming
  • Experience and/or education with activity or sport programming Preferred Skills:
  • Ability to think critically and program to the needs of our community
  • Knowledge of pertinent sport rules or officiating
  • An understanding of sport and physical activity best practices
  • An ability to utilize Google suite and ActiveNet is considered an asset
  • Current MRU students are preferred with University Students in general being our next preferred candidates Required Certification: Standard First Aid with CPR-C and AED (or the ability to obtain certification by first scheduled shift)
