The Core Music teacher will:</p><ul><li>Prepare a draft schedule for core music programs in designated schools, after consultation with individual school staffs and administration for approval of administration;</li><li>Implement the program in keeping with District and Ministry expectations; and,</li><li>Ensure care, inventory and maintenance of school equipment.</li></ul><p><b><u>MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:</u></b></p><p>A) A valid B.C.

Teacher’s Certificate;</p><p>B) Satisfactory practicum / teaching experience in elementary education (preferably K-4) or other teaching experience deemed to be comparable: and</p><p>C) Bachelors specialization in music or music education or a Graduate Diploma (PB+15) Program – Elementary Music Specialization. </p><p><b> As an alternate to (C) above, the following are viewed as equivalent training: </b><br></br></p><p> 1.demonstrated ability to read music; and <br></br></p><p>2. one course with a significant component of Music pedagogy such as SFU – Education 478-4 (Designs for Learning: Music); UVIC – Music 237 (Music in the Elementary School Curriculum); or, UBC equivalent to the above courses; and,</p><p>3. three university level courses (or the equivalent) from any of the following areas:</p><ul><li>choir</li><li>strings – guitar and/or ukulele</li><li>ORFF &/or Kodaly</li><li>recorder</li><li>drumming – Djembe, Taiko</li><li>equivalent coursework or demonstrated expertise in playing & teaching the playing of a musical instrument.</li></ul><p><b>It is preferred that Core Music Teachers possess a specialization in one of the following:</b> </p><ul><li>Bachelors of Education – Music Education, Graduate Diploma (PB+15) Program – Elementary Music Specialization, </li><li>or Masters of Educations – Music Education.</li></ul> <p>Ranges for $63,000 to $116,000, with placement on the range based on length of service, FTE and qualifications in accordance with the Collective Agreement. </p> <p><strong>Qualified applicants can apply by clicking the "apply" button to the right of the posting.</strong><strong> </strong></p> <p><strong>Note: </strong>Only those applicants selected for interviews will be contacted.

Requirements

Valid B.C.

Teacher’s Certificate.

Satisfactory practicum/teaching experience in elementary education (preferably K-4) or comparable teaching experience.

Bachelor specialization in music or music education, or Graduate Diploma (PB+15) Program – Elementary Music Specialization.

Alternate training acceptable: demonstrated ability to read music; one music pedagogy course (e.g., SFU Education 478-4, UVIC Music 237, or UBC equivalent); and three university-level courses (or equivalent) in areas such as choir, strings (guitar/ukulele), ORFF and/or Kodaly, recorder, drumming (Djembe/Taiko) or demonstrated expertise playing and teaching an instrument.

Preferred specialization: B.Ed.

Music Education, Graduate Diploma (PB+15) Elementary Music Specialization, or Masters of Education – Music Education
