About the role

Teach Grade 2 students a variety of subject areas following the BC Ministry of Education curriculum.

(Hello Friend)</p><p>Our Nuxalk Acwsalcmlslayc Academy of Learning Society (NAALS) office is located at Snxlhh (now called 4-Mile Subdivision) in Nuxalk territory adjacent to Acwsalcta School, which is one of the most architecturally beautiful schools in B.C., and features exquisite designs by local Nuxalk artists.

Our school is a Nursery to Grade 12 school, and boasts a Head Start and Language Immersion Preschool program, and we have a licensed Daycare on site.

Acwsalcta School is an Independent school, and offers many locally developed courses along with the Ministry of Education's graduation program.</p><div><p>Acwsalcta School offers a large range of programs including Outdoor Education, Traditional Foods and Nuxalk Language and Culture classes.</p><p>Acwsalcta means “A Place of Learning”.

At Acwsalcta, students are provided with opportunities and support to develop strong personal identities as Nuxalkmc.

Our dynamic cultural program is a foundation upon which they can build the skills, knowledge, values and attitudes that will inspire them to become lifelong learners and to find success for each of them in meeting the challenges of a complex and rapidly changing future!</p><p>Here is our website, we invite you to check it out: <a></a> </p></div><p><u><b>Teaching Opportunities:</b></u></p><p>Acwsalcta School has a teaching opportunity for the 2026-2027 school year, as a Grade 2 Classroom Teacher. </p><p>The Grade 2 Classroom Teacher will be teaching a variety of subject areas and following the BC Ministry of Education's curriculum. </p><p><u><b>Qualifications:</b></u></p><p>-must have a Bachelor of Education and a current BC Teaching Certificate</p><p>-must be willing to work collaboratively with other staff members to meet school goals and vision including implementing a literacy program that includes daily guided reading, phonics instruction, writing, fluency, and exposure to and encouragement of a love for literacy.

We provide support and Pro-D in this area.</p><p>-demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of First Nations culture, and a willing to learn and implement Nuxalk teachings into the classroom</p><p>-demonstrates the understanding of a community school, and involves the community and families in the school events</p><div><p>-experience with primary grades is preferred</p><p><b><u>Salary:</u></b></p><p>Salary is in accordance with the 2026-2027 NAALS Salary grid between categories 4 and 6, in accordance with the Teacher Qualification Service (TQS) evaluation and years of experience.

Requirements

Bachelor of Education.

Current BC Teaching Certificate.

Willingness to work collaboratively with staff to meet school goals and vision.

Knowledge and understanding of First Nations culture and willingness to learn and implement Nuxalk teachings.

Understanding of a community school and willingness to involve community and families.
