About the role

Temporarily replace Elementary and Secondary Library Technicians when absent.

Perform day-to-day school library tasks including checking books in and out and shelving books.

Perform required cataloguing and circulation of library and classroom resources.

Assist and support the Teacher Librarian with collection management according to district policy and procedures.

Provide full service to staff and students in all aspects of library use, including selecting and locating appropriate resources.

Manage flexible pass systems and support teachers and district teacher-librarians with resource-based teaching units.

Create and maintain an attractive and appropriate library setting.

Maintain records of lost or damaged books and report results to the Teacher Librarian and/or school office administration.

Maintain a current inventory list of audio visual equipment.

Assume general supervision of the library facilities when the Teacher or Teacher Librarian is not present.

Follow proper work procedures and observe all regulations pertinent to the work.

Maintain a good working relationship with other employees and cooperate in maintaining a healthy learning and working environment.

Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Provide student supervision as required by the Principal or Vice Principal

Provides general supervision of the library facilities when the Teacher or Teacher Librarian are not present.</li><li>The current On-Call rate of pay is $27.84 per hour plus 16.3% in lieu of benefits.<br></br></li></ul><p><b>Preferred Qualifications, Training and Experience:</b></p><p>Grade 12 education or equivalent, supplemented by completion of a formal library program diploma such as library technician.

Equivalency will be considered for those with course work in education, English, or other related disciplines; current experience in a school or public library is an asset; demonstrated ability in the use of computer technology in the context of a networked environment including: Word processing, database management and automated library systems; familiarity with children's literature appropriate to the needs of the students; familiarity with reference and academic resources that pertain to curriculum learning outcomes if assigned to a secondary school; good knowledge of the English language, written and oral; demonstrated ability to work effectively with students and in support of their learning; demonstrated ability to problem solve and collaborate with staff; meets the physical requirements of the position; ability to work independently and as a member of a team; excellent interpersonal and communication skills.</p><p><b>Job Characteristics and Requirements:</b></p><p>Duties are performed under the supervision of the school Principal or Vice Principal.

Requirements

Grade 12 education or equivalent.

Completion of a formal library program diploma such as library technician (equivalency considered with course work in education, English, or related disciplines).

Current experience in a school or public library is an asset.

Demonstrated ability to use computer technology in a networked environment (word processing, database management, automated library systems).

Familiarity with children's literature appropriate to student needs.

Familiarity with reference and academic resources aligned to curriculum learning outcomes if assigned to a secondary school.

Good knowledge of the English language (written and oral).
