The successful candidate will deliver engaging, student-centered learning experiences that foster creativity, exploration, and skill development while building positive relationships with students in a supportive school community. We are seeking an educator who is committed to incorporating Nuu-chah-nulth perspectives and ways of knowing<strong>,</strong> and is excited to connect learning to the land, community, and students' lived experiences. This is a 10-month position, with the opportunity to extend contract based off teacher evaluation.</p><p><strong><u>Key Responsibilities</u></strong><strong><u>:</u></strong></p><ul><li>Plan and deliver the BC Arts Education curriculum for students in Grades 8–12 </li><li>Design and teach one or more elective courses from the BC curriculum based on student interest, school programming, and teacher strengths (e.g. photography, outdoor education, media arts, leadership, culinary arts, woodworking, etc.) </li><li>Create an inclusive and engaging classroom environment that supports diverse learners</li><li>Assess student learning and provide timely feedback on progress </li><li>Communicate with all parties involved in the education of the student</li><li>Facilitate an extracurricular activity, and serve on a staff committee of choice</li><li>Build strong, respectful relationships with students, families, and community members</li><li>Collaborate with school staff to support student success and school-wide initiatives</li><li>Incorporate culturally responsive teaching practices and local/community perspectives into learning opportunities</li><li>May plan and supervise field trips following established procedures.</li><li>Meet and coordinate with specialists; adapt activities to students' special needs; develop appropriate modifications for I.E.P.</li><li>Attend planning meetings, team meetings, staff meetings, committee meetings etc.</li><li>Monitor use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.</li><li>Attend in-service trainings and workshops.</li><li>Prepare lesson plans and materials for substitute teachers; include class lists, and any special instructions related to students' special needs.</li><li>Supervise classroom educational assistants</li><li>Create emergency lesson plans as required.</li><li>Maintain regular, on-time, attendance.</li><li>Accommodate visitors to the classroom.</li><li>Knowledge of emergency plans for the school and participate in fire drills, earthquake/Tsunami drills and lockdown drills, as required.</li></ul><strong><u>Mandatory Document</u></strong><strong><u>s</u></strong><strong><u>:</u></strong><p>Resume</p><p>Cover Letter</p><p>Criminal Background Check (VSS)</p><p>Teaching Qualifications/Licenses</p><p>Certificates & Diplomas</p><p>Reference Letter(s)</p><p>Deadline to apply: Open until position is filled</p><p>Please submit all documents to Carli Klapstein-MSS Principal: <a></a><br></br>and Leonard Merriman-Director of Education: <a></a></p>
