Who We Are

Vancouver College of Counselling Training (VCCT) is seeking a qualified Social Service Worker & Community Mental Health Instructor to join our instructional team. In this role, you will support adult learners as they develop the knowledge, professional competencies, and ethical foundations required for careers in social services and community support settings. Position Overview We are seeking individuals who are passionate about education and social service practice, possess relevant academic credentials in Social Work or related disciplines, and bring strong applied experience working with individuals, families, and communities. As a Social Worker Instructor at VCCT, you will deliver high-quality, student-centered instruction across both in-person and online learning environments. Instructors are expected to model professional ethics consistent with social work standards while supporting student success academically and professionally. Key Teaching Responsibilities Deliver engaging instruction across Social Service Work & Community Mental Health program courses using evidence-based teaching practices. Facilitate learning through both classroom-based and online delivery formats. Ensure course delivery aligns with curriculum objectives and institutional learning outcomes. Provide timely and constructive feedback on assignments and assessments through Canvas. Evaluate student performance fairly and submit grades within institutional timelines. Support the development of practical social service competencies Student Support and Engagement Be available Monday through Friday to support learners across scheduled teaching formats. Provide academic coaching and additional instructional support as needed. Foster inclusive, respectful, and culturally responsive learning environments. Encourage participation and critical thinking in both synchronous and asynchronous learning settings. Support students preparing for employment within social service environments. Program and Institutional Responsibilities Develop New Course Content: Design and develop comprehensive course curriculum, including syllabi, learning objectives, and detailed outlines for new in-class and online programs. Create Instructional Materials: Produce engaging educational content such as case studies, laboratory exercises, multimedia resources, and assignments to support diverse learning needs. Set Learning Objectives: Define clear, measurable student learning outcomes that align with academic standards and program goals. Maintain familiarity with VCCT Social Work curriculum and course updates. Contribute to curriculum improvement initiatives. Participate in instructor meetings and professional development sessions. Support student progress monitoring and early intervention strategies when required. Uphold academic integrity and regulatory compliance expectations. Administrative and Technical Duties Maintain accurate attendance records and grading documentation. Deliver instruction using: Canvas LMS Microsoft Teams institutional communication platforms Support students navigating online learning tools. Maintain professional communication with students and staff through official channels only. Professional and Ethical Conduct Demonstrate professionalism and commitment to student success. Model ethical behaviour aligned with social work professional standards. Apply culturally responsive and trauma-informed teaching approaches. Maintain appropriate professional presentation when teaching on campus. Adhere to VCCT institutional policies and values. Required Qualifications Degree or diploma in Social Work, Social Services, Community Mental Health, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field. Minimum 3–5 years of recent industry experience in social services, mental health, community support, case management, counselling, or related areas. Previous teaching, training, or facilitation experience is considered an asset. Experience working with diverse and vulnerable populations. Strong communication skills in both classroom and online environments. Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, crisis intervention, mental health support, and community resources is preferred. Preferred Experience Experience teaching adult learners in post-secondary or career college environments. Background supporting practicum readiness or workplace preparation. Experience delivering hybrid or online instruction. Familiarity with private career college environments. Minimum Instructor Qualifications (As per regulatory guidelines) A certificate, diploma, or post-secondary degree in Social Work, Social Services, Community Mental Health, Human Services, Psychology, or a related field, plus a minimum of two years of full-time related work experience; OR A minimum of ten years of full-time directly related career experience in Social Services, Community Mental Health, Human Services, Case Management, Community Support, or a related field.
