  • This role provides instructional support to instructors delivering academic courses in classroom, laboratory, or work‑integrated learning settings.
  • The position involves direct interaction with students—individually or in groups—to supplement and reinforce theory delivered by program instructors.
  • Duties may include supporting in‑lab activities, grading, providing remedial or tutorial assistance, and completing related administrative tasks.
  • Work may be performed in person on-site at the NAIT Dental Clinic and laboratories, or online.
  • Key Responsibilities Independently deliver in-lab technical lessons Evaluate student technical abilities using existing assessment tools Grade assignments using existing rubrics Independently supervise students Provide tutorial/remedial services to students Provide feedback to students Participate in transfer credit activities Set-up, adjust, calibrate, dismantle technical equipment Organize and distribute learning materials Invigilate exams Administrative duties Skills & Abilities A solid working knowledge of clinical settings, safety standards, and equipment operations and maintenance in the dental Understanding of education delivery methods, practices, and techniques Strong oral and written communication Strong interpersonal skills Strong time management and organizational skills Initiative and ability to work independently Knowledge of computers and use of Microsoft suite of programs Ability to lift 20-45 pounds unassisted Ability to stand and walk for 7.25 hours Ability to physically perform standard dental and intraoral work Ability to work flexible hours and assignments Knowledge of program-related equipment Knowledge of program-related policies and procedures Knowledge of training methods, techniques, and practices Qualifications Dental Assisting certificate, diploma or degree is required A current and good-standing member of the College of Alberta Dental Assistants is required 5 years of related chairside experience is recommended Class 5 driver's license is considered an asset.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services (WES), International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) or the Comparative Education Services (CES).
  • Classification - Instructional Assistant II This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
  • Remuneration Refer to salary range noted on this posting, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
