The primary focus of settlement workers in schools is to facilitate integration and settlement of newcomer families through systematic outreach to newly arrived families, to provide them with the information about available services, needs assessment, cross-cultural education and referral.</p><p> The Settlement Worker will report to the ESL Coordinator and be under the supervision of the Director of Instruction.

Experience with employment-related settlement services would be considered an asset. </p><p><strong><u> POSTING DETAILS</u></strong></p><ul> <li><strong> Position - </strong>Settlement Worker </li> <li><strong> Start Date </strong>- September 07, 2026</li> <li><strong> Schedule - </strong>Casual / On Call (hours vary) </li> <li><strong> Location(s) </strong>- Varied</li></ul><p><b><u> DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES</u></b></p><ul> <li> Conducts systematic needs assessment for newcomer children and families. </li> <li> Documentation and tracking of regular client contacts. </li> <li> Liaises with parents, students, schools and community agencies. </li> <li> Facilitates communication between school staff and newcomer families. </li> <li> Facilitates referrals to community services and resources. </li> <li> Advocates on behalf of student and family. </li> <li> Maintains records and statistical information while ensuring confidentiality of client information. </li> <li> Provides assistance to parents to ensure a positive acculturation for the children. </li> <li> Provides information to schools about ways to support settlement issues. </li> <li> Organizes and/or facilitates settlement-related events and workshops for schools. </li> <li> Assists schools with establishing and maintaining contact with ‘hard to reach’ families. </li> <li> Encourages parent participation in education. </li> <li> Attends all required professional development and in-service activities as provided.</li></ul><p><strong><u> REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS</u></strong></p><ul> <li> Grade 12 graduation, plus two years post secondary education in Social Sciences, Social Work or Counselling or an equivalent combination of training and experience. </li> <li> Two years experience working in a multicultural setting with different ethnic groups.
