Position Summary

  • Under the guidance and support of the Community Inclusion Supervisor and as part of the Community Inclusion team, the Community Support Worker will be responsible for providing assistance and support to people with developmental and physical disabilities. Community Support Workers will co-design and provide creative opportunities that facilitate learning and participation through accessing community. These opportunities will reflect and respect the personal preferences, goals and choices of each person. Activities will include providing one-to-one and group skill development and independence-building. This could include support to people in their home or in community to assist with transportation independence, financial management, cooking skills and general household management, help with building relationships and creating community connections. SHIFTS: 35 hours/week - Primarily Monday to Friday 8:30 am - 4:00 pm, with the flexibility to work some evening and weekend shifts LOCATIONS: Port Coquitlam and New Westminster and surrounding communities
  • Work location and hours of work can change at any time based on program needs

Qualifications

Diploma in Human Services or equivalent education (e.g. Community Support Worker, Therapeutic Recreation) Experience supporting people with a variety of abilities to access activities that take place in the community or one of the organization's facilities Experience providing support to adults with developmental and physical disabilities Experience physically assisting people with personal care needs in a respectful and safe manner Experience in the organization and facilitation of the Person Centered Planning Process Knowledge of Positive Behavioral Support techniques, knowledge and experience in skill based training Knowledge and ability to use augmentative communication, strong oral and written communication skills including report writing skills Strong computer skills Ability to interact effectively with individuals and families Class 5 Driver's License, satisfactory driving record; required to use own vehicle Class 4 Unrestricted Driver's License an asset Current Community Care First Aid/CPR, NVCI, Food Safe certificates Maintain a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check throughout employment This position requires BCGEU union membership
