Job summary

Reporting to the Shki Waase-Aaban Binoojiinh Gamik Manager, the Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) is responsible for the effective and efficient delivery and administration of the Early Years Program in accordance with all relevant policies and procedures. The Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) is responsible for developing and implementing a developmentally based educational program to care for young children, primarily between the ages of 18 months to five years of age. The RECE must ensure the development and safety of children in accordance with relevant federal, provincial, and internal Sagamok Anishnawbek policies. The RECE will be respectful of children and their parents, and develop opportunities that will support the emotional, physical, cognitive, and social needs of children and their families.

Terms and conditions of employment

1. Hours may vary but shall not exceed 35 hours per week unless prior approval has been authorized to exceed terms and conditions. 2. Adheres to policies and procedures according to the Sagamok Anishnawbek and Shki Waase-Aaban Binoojiinh Gamik. 3. Signs and adheres to an Oath of Confidentiality 4. Maintain a clear criminal reference check (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Clearance

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE/RECE); Must be registered and a member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Classroom Assistant to the Registered Early Childhood Educator.
  • Up to date immunizations.
  • Understanding and knowledge of the Childcare Early Years Act requirements.
  • Knowledge of child development theories and practices, emerging trends in early childhood education, determinants of health, and supportive, preventative programming.
  • Ability to effectively interact and relate to children and their families in a developmentally appropriate manner.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures to ensure that children are supervised and safe at all times.
  • Ability to supervise and lift / carry children when required.
  • Must be sensitive to individual children’s differences and needs.
  • Knowledge of Anishnawbe language and culture will be considered a definite asset.
  • Ability to engage people to build trust and rapport; effective verbal and listening communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including database applications.
  • Excellent stress management and time management skills, ability to meet deadlines.
  • Team building and decision-making skills; ability to problem solve and take initiative.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, as approved by immediate Manager.
  • Valid First Aid / CPR Certificate Required / Safe Food Handling certification is an asset.
  • A clear Vulnerable Sector Clearance will be a condition of employment.
  • Must have a valid Ontario driver’s license and reliable transportation.
