<p><strong>TITLE

  • </strong><strong></strong>YOUTH CARE WORKER - 20 Hours</p> <p><strong>DEPARTMENT: </strong><strong></strong>Schools</p> <p><strong>REPORTS TO: </strong><strong></strong>Principal or Designate</p> <p><strong>WAGE:</strong> $32.32 - $33.67 hourly wage effective July 1, 2024 </p> <p><strong>SUMMARY:</strong></p> <p>With direction from the teacher or administrator, the YCW assists in developing and implementing individual education plans for students with emotional, social, or behavioral difficulties.</p> <p><strong>DUTIES:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Maintains liaison with teachers, counsellors, administrators, students and their families.</li> <li>Conducts home and community visits.</li> <li>Assists in the development and implementation of specific academic/social interventions with students who present unique and challenging behaviors.</li> <li>Provides guidance to students and their families.</li> <li>Organizes and participates in field trips and other special events.</li> <li>Provides transportation as needed.</li> <li>Assists the teacher in evaluating and reporting on individual students.</li> <li>Regularly participates in screening and review meetings as required.</li> <li>Regularly communicates with parents and community agencies under the direction of the teacher/administrator.</li> <li>Assumes additional responsibilities, which are site-specific.</li> </ul> <strong>REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, SKILLS (YOUTH CARE WORKER)</strong> <ul> <li>Grade 12 education.</li> <li>Two year diploma/certificate (60 credits) from any accredited college or university in areas related to child or youth care and counselling.</li> <li>Two years of experience (<strong>which includes one year experience in the public education</strong> <strong>system)</strong> with exceptional children or youth in the appropriate age range.</li> <li>Valid British Columbia driver's license.</li> <li>Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.</li> <li>Ability to perform individually and as part of a multi-disciplinary team</li> <li>Ability to follow directions with regard to individualized education plans and the dispensing of medication.</li> <li>Ability to deal with very challenging behaviors on a daily basis within an emotionally and physically demanding environment.</li> <li>Requires mature judgement in ensuring that the YCW provides services only in those areas in which he/she possesses the required skills.</li> <li>Ability to maintain confidentiality.</li> <li>Ability to operate or learn to operate school equipment (e.g. recorders, computers, etc.)</li> <li>Basic computer knowledge skills required.</li> </ul> <strong>TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED</strong> <p>Common classroom and playground materials/equipment (e.g. art supplies, audio-visual equipment, sports equipment, etc.)</p> <p><strong>PHYSICAL ABILITIES</strong></p> <ul> <li>Sufficient vision and hearing to perform assigned duties independently.</li> <li>Ability to lift, transfer and assist students as required.</li> <li>Manual dexterity.</li> </ul> <strong></strong> <p><strong>HOW
