Core responsibilities
- Work with students on a one to one or small group basis to reinforce instruction.
- Assist with student supervision and classroom management.
- Assist student with personal independence and self-Care.
- Lift or assist with lifting and positioning students.
- Perform procedures as directed by health care professionals.
- Administer student medication and first aid.
- Assist with occupational/Physiotherapy programs.
- Encourage development of social and life skills.
- Confer with teachers and parents on student needs.
- Clean and disinfect therapy equipment.
- Assist with food purchase, preparation, and cleanup.
- Assist with integration of students into regular classes.
- Implement and monitor behavior management programs.
- Provide transportation for students.
- Adapt instructional materials.
- Assist with instructional material preparation and distribution
Requirements summary
- High school diploma and special education assistant certificate or equivalent.
- Valid class 5 driver's license.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- First aid certification.
- Knowledge of psychosocial issues of special needs students.
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures.
- Patience, care, tolerance, understanding.

- Ability to respond to violent behavior.
