School District #49 (Central Coast) Posting #T346-26/27 April 24, 2026 Temporary School CounsellorSeptember 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027 Job Summary As a School Counsellor, you play a pivotal role in supporting students' academic, social, and emotional well- being within an education setting.
You provide guidance, counselling, and advocacy to help students navigate personal challenges, academic obstacles, and social issues.
Whether it's assisting with offering emotional support during difficult times, or facilitating conflict resolution, you work collaboratively to foster a positive and inclusive learning environment conducive to students' overall growth and success. As a member of the School District 49 (Central Coast) Team, job duties include the following: <ul><li>Document and report activity in alignment with School District 49 (Central Coast) practices and support internal and external reporting as required including maintaining accurate case management, file recording and monthly reporting systems. </li><li>Attend relevant professional training and meetings when directed. </li><li>Participate in staff development, staff meetings and department meetings as required. </li><li>Participate in data collection and evaluation tasks as requested. </li><li>Bring expertise and related experience to provide a range of services including assessment and screening, consultation, and therapeutic services. </li></ul>Knowledge and Skills Familiarity and experience in Indigenous Communities: <ul><li>Knowledge of indigenous culture and practices including from the territory in which the work of School District 49 (Central Coast) takes place; Ability to speak about one's own indigenous culture, if applicable, and any communities the (prospective employee has previously lived in or held jobs within). </li><li>In-depth knowledge of the experience of indigenous peoples in Canada including the ongoing processes of colonization, discrimination, and structural violence, and the effects on the health and wellbeing of indigenous communities. </li><li>Knowledge and practice of providing community-based services to indigenous peoples using philosophies of cultural humility and cultural safety. </li></ul>Communication Skills and Abilities <ul><li>Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing, with staff members, students, parents, and outside community agencies and partners. </li></ul>Leadership Skills and Abilities <ul><li>Ability to work independently and be part of an integrated community team and in partnership with a variety of agencies. </li><li>Ability to multi-task while remaining composed and maintaining a professional attitude in high stress situations. </li><li>Proven ability to work independently and be part of an integrated community team and in partnership with a variety of organizations. </li></ul>Qualifications/Education <ul><li>Legally entitled to work in Canada. </li><li>A Master's degree in Counselling or Counselling Psychology or equivalent. </li><li>Demonstrated skills and knowledge in counselling children and consulting with school staff & parents. </li><li>Preference will be given to candidates eligible for certification with the British Columbia Teacher Regulation Branch. </li><li>Member of the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors or the Association of BC School Counsellors. </li></ul>Work Experience <ul><li>A minimum of 2 years providing school counselling services. </li><li>Relevant experience working within Indigenous communities and/or non-profit organizations is preferred, specifically in addressing the trauma of Day and Residential Schools, Indian Hospitals and other colonial processes and institutions. </li></ul>The annual salary range for this position is $72,983 to $126,238 (which includes retention & recruitment allowance)<a></a>plus $1,200 for moving expenses.
