Overview
Collaborate with teachers and school resource teams to support planning and delivery of services for English Language Learners. Provide case management for students meeting BC Ministry of Education criteria for English Language Learners, including ensuring appropriate documentation and learning supports are in place. Consult with parents and collaborate with school and district staff to provide high-level services to students in inclusive settings. Plan for social and academic language competence. Support creation of a school culture that values students' first language and cultural heritage. Work with teachers to identify resources that reflect students' history, literature, and culture. Facilitate strong working partnerships with parents and encourage active participation in students' learning. Collaborate to implement practices reflecting current research for effective ESL and ESD practices. Assess students' speaking, listening, reading, and writing in terms of language performance and classroom functioning. Plan for development of basic language and content skills in academic subject areas. Identify additional service needs beyond ELL (e.g., special needs support, counselling, community worker services). Collaborate with other professionals to monitor student progress. Ensure reporting and services comply with Ministry of Education eligibility criteria
