Overview
Assist students with integration into the classroom and school setting. Facilitate student learning individually and in small groups under the supervision of the classroom teacher. Monitor and report student progress to the classroom teacher. Accompany and supervise students during school activities (gym, playground, field trips, recess, noon hour, and during the day). Support implementation of students' individual education plans (IEPs). Support implementation of behavioral management plans. Protect and respect confidentiality of information. Assist with the Breakfast program to ensure students have eaten. Provide supervision during bus loading in the afternoon. Provide learning assistance for students with special needs. Provide one-on-one support for select students during Okanagan language, math, science, and socials. Provide support to clubs identified as requiring supports at school. Produce materials and implement strategies to accommodate individual learner needs and learning styles. Assist with development of instructional learning resources. Implement and reinforce learning activities using lesson plans and learning strategies developed by the teacher/team. Share relevant information to support IEP goals, transition, and program design. Attend student IEP meetings and team/staff meetings when invited. Document, monitor, and report to teacher/team on implementation of intervention programs. Follow established reporting procedures. Carry out functional (informal) assessment activities to assist the teacher in developing learner profiles. Observe and document learner strengths, achievements, and needs through daily learning activities. Gather relevant information through working with students to provide feedback into the planning process. Act as a role model and contribute to maintaining collective harmony in the school. Implement socialization strategies and life skills education for students. Maintain positive, supportive, professional relationships within the education community and with the PIB community
