About the role

Supply teachers are responsible for maintaining a safe and productive learning environment by following lesson plans and supervising students in grades 7-12. They must also manage classroom routines, uphold school policies, and report any incidents to the administration.

Supply Teachers – Middle & High School – Abraar Secondary School

Job summary

Abraar Secondary School is seeking qualified and reliable Supply Teachers to provide short-term, occasional, and/or longer-term classroom coverage for Grades 7–12. Supply Teachers are responsible for maintaining a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.

Supply Teachers are expected to follow lesson plans, supervise students actively, maintain classroom routines, uphold school policies, and model professionalism, respect, and Islamic values.

Duties and Responsibilities

Supply Teachers are expected to

Report to the school office upon arrival to receive schedules, lesson plans, attendance information, keys, and any required instructions.

Follow the lesson plans and instructions provided by the regular classroom teacher or administration.

Maintain a positive, respectful, and organized classroom environment.

Take attendance according to school procedures.

Supervise students actively during assigned classes, duties, transitions, and other scheduled responsibilities.

Ensure students are never left unsupervised.

Support student learning using appropriate instructional strategies and classroom routines.

Follow school expectations for student behaviour, discipline, safety, and respectful conduct.

Report student behaviour concerns, injuries, illnesses, safety issues, or other incidents to administration promptly.

Maintain confidentiality regarding students, staff, parents, and school matters.

Avoid dismissing students early or changing school procedures unless directed by administration.

Complete any required notes or supply-teacher report before leaving for the day.

Return materials, keys, and any required documents to the school office at the end of the assignment.

Follow all MAC and school policies, including professional conduct, child safety, dress code, and emergency procedures.

For longer-term placements, Supply Teachers may also be expected to support lesson preparation, assessment, communication with administration, and other duties related to the teaching assignment.

Qualifications

Candidates should meet the following qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, teaching qualification, or relevant post-secondary education.
  • Ontario Certified Teacher designation is an asset.
  • Previous teaching, tutoring, classroom, or youth-supervision experience is preferred.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions, adapt quickly, and work professionally in different classroom settings.
  • Respect for Islamic values and commitment to a positive school environment.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check and required employment documents must be provided before employment.

Working conditions

Supply Teachers work on an as-needed basis depending on school needs and staff absences. Assignments may vary by day, grade level, subject area, and duration. Working hours follow the school schedule and assigned duties for the day.

Requirements
