About the role

Teach one or two sections of EDAE 4100 (Arts Education) in Fall 2026 for the Bachelor of Education (Elementary) program.

Introduce teacher candidates to cross-curricular integration of drama, music, and visual arts in teaching practice.

Facilitate authentic experiences with the K-12 BC Curriculum arts through listening, appraising, performing, and creating.

Lead discussion and reflection on issues, trends, and methodologies related to the arts in school settings and within Indigenous worldview contexts.

Support teacher candidates in developing appreciation for the arts within the K-12 BC education and curriculum and its role in supporting learning.

Develop and deliver culturally appropriate curricula

Duties

Thompson Rivers University is seeking one or two sessional faculty members who will teach one or two sections of EDAE 4100 in our Bachelor of Education (Elementary) program (School of Education, Faculty of Education & Social Work), in Fall of 2026. Strong candidates will have extensive knowledge of Arts Education, and have teaching experience in K-12 and post-secondary settings. EDAE 4100 (Arts Education): This course introduces teacher candidates to the cross-curricular integration of drama, music, and visual arts in teaching practice to meet the needs of diverse learners. Teacher candidates engage in authentic experiences with the K-12 BC Curriculum arts through listening, appraising, performing, and creating. Teacher candidates participate in discussion and reflection that examines the issues, trends, and methodologies related to the arts in school settings and within Indigenous worldview contexts. Teacher candidates develop an appreciation for the arts within the K-12 BC education and curriculum, and its role in supporting learning.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Education is required
  • A Master of Education is required
  • Recent successful experience as a K-12 teacher strongly preferred and three years successful full time classroom experience is required
  • Advanced knowledge of the subject area is required
  • Experience and excellent understanding of child development and how this relates to elementary or secondary schools is required
  • Previous successful post-secondary school teaching experience is preferred
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills is required
  • Proven skills in building intercultural understanding, empathy and mutual respect are required
  • Demonstrated experience in integrating Aboriginal knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) is required
  • Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) is required

Requirements

Bachelor of Education required.

Master of Education required.

Recent successful experience as a K-12 teacher strongly preferred; three years successful full-time classroom experience required.
