About the role

The Fitness Coordinator develops, delivers, and evaluates fitness programming to enhance student wellness and engagement. They also serve as an onsite resource for fitness equipment and provide guidance to students while managing participant health documentation.

Located in the heart of the Niagara Region – just minutes from one of the world’s most well-known tourism destinations – Niagara College offers more than 130 innovative programs between our campuses in Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake. Applications are invited for the regular position of part-time Fitness Coordinator in the Athletics and Student Engagement Division.

The starting salary is $32.74/hr for a 24-hour work week.

Additional hours may be required at peak times during the year such as start or end of term.

The position is located at the Welland Campus.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Athletics and Student Engagement, and part of the Campus Recreation team, the successful candidate provides consistent, qualified fitness leadership that enhances student wellness, engagement, and access to recreation services.

Through the ongoing development, delivery, and evaluation of fitness programming, this role ensures students have access to safe, inclusive, and responsive fitness opportunities that reflect their evolving needs.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Develop programming schedules and fitness initiatives in collaboration with the Campus Recreation Coordinator to maximize participation and engagement Plan, coordinate, deliver, and evaluate fitness programs, events, and services that support student wellness and meet the diverse needs, interests, and abilities of the campus community Provide students with fitness-related guidance, information, and support within scope of certification Serve as an accessible onsite resource for students seeking assistance with fitness equipment, exercise participation, program selection, and wellness-related goals Coordinate experiential learning opportunities by recruiting, onboarding, scheduling, mentoring, and evaluating placement students from academic programs such as Fitness and Health Promotion, Exercise Science, Recreation Therapy, and related disciplines Review and maintain participant documentation, including Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire for Everyone forms (PAR-Q+) and other health screening or informed consent documentation, to support safe participation and adherence to departmental risk management practices

Qualifications

Minimum 2-year diploma in a related field of study Minimum 2 years experience in fitness instruction or program delivery in a recreation, post-secondary or community-based environment Certified Personal Trainor, Certified Registered Exercise Physiologist, or Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certification is required CPR and First Aid Certification Group fitness class certification is an asset Experience in designing and leading group fitness activities Familiarity with health screening tools (ex: PAR-Q+) and participant intake process Strong interpersonal and communication skills Relationship building skills within a team environment as well as with direct clients This position is open to internal employees and external applicants. Requirements

Candidates must possess a minimum 2-year diploma in a related field and at least 2 years of experience in fitness instruction. Required certifications include a recognized personal training or exercise physiology credential, along with CPR and First Aid.
