About the role

The Assistant Educator ensures the delivery of a developmentally appropriate, play-based program in compliance with Ministry and organizational guidelines. They engage with children, provide daily care, and maintain ongoing communication with parents and team members.

Cecilia PS.

This position is to fill an existing vacancy.

This is a temporary position for an 18 month duration.

New June 2026 pay rates!

Pay Range: Assistant Educator $20.60 - $23.54/hour (includes General Operating Grant) plus Wage Enhancement Grant (up to $2.00/hr) and Split Shift Premium ($2.00/hr). *Candidates must be available to work a split shift in a before and after school program.

Position Type & Required Availability: Full-time Split Shift Position (27.5 hours/week): Candidates must be available to work a split-shift (morning and afternoon) in our Before & After School programs Monday-Friday to be considered.

Position Summary

To ensure operational and curriculum requirements are met in compliance with all Ministry and organizational guidelines. To ensure the delivery of a developmentally appropriate, play based program by applying specialized skills and knowledge related to early childhood education. Supports the organization’s vision, mission, and guiding values. This is a fully in-centre position. Job Responsibilities: Applies current legislative expectations to support a program that is consistent with Ministry of Education requirements and in accordance with Upper Canada Child Care’s program statement. Participates in professional development opportunities, staff meetings and training sessions as required. Engages with the children and provides a positive learning experience. Provides a range of care including assisting with meals/snacks, toileting, diapering, dressing, etc. Fosters the engagement of and ongoing communication with parents about the program and their children. Completes program charts, daily logs, reports, and other administration tasks as required. Uses Storypark for pedagogical documentation as a guide for program development. Effectively collaborates and communicates with other team members, school personnel, and outside agencies to help support the needs of all children. Provides guidance to students and volunteers as needed. Identifies children in need of additional support. Guides parents through the process of accessing resources. Helps design and implement individual support plans as required.

Qualifications

& Requirements: A recent Vulnerable Sector Check Health assessment and record of immunization, as outlined by legislation. Up-to-date certification in CPR-C and Standard First Aid (training provided upon selection if required). Basic knowledge of the developmental needs of children and demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge. Experience with inquiry/play based program design and implementation, and with the use of pedagogical documentation an asset. Uses initiative; applies sound reason in solving problems and resolves conflict in a calm, professional manner. Proven ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively and establish appropriate relationships with families, coworkers and other professionals. Have the physical and emotional stamina to effectively supervise children in a variety of settings including outdoor public spaces. Ability to use computer systems and programs; including Dayforce, and Storypark. Moderate level of physical effort is regularly required; including but not limited to kneeling, pushing, pulling, bending, and carrying.
