About the role

The Relief Day Camp Counsellor is responsible for preparing and delivering high-quality programming for children aged 4 to 16. They must ensure the safety and well-being of all campers while actively participating in indoor, outdoor, and aquatic activities.

YMCA of Southwestern Ontario operates one overnight camp on Beausoleil Island in Muskoka, YMCA Camp Queen Elizabeth.

We also have 13 Health & Fitness branches across Southwestern Ontario.

  • Salary: $17.60/ hour Hours may vary per week from 0 to 40 hours Shift length can vary from 0 to 8 hours per day Must be available for a minimum of 2 shifts a week, could work 0 to 5 days Site leadership will arrange shifts ahead of time or call you as early as 7 am the day of to see if you are available, based on relief counsellor needs

  • In this role, you will: A Day Camp Counsellor will provide high quality day camp programing to children between 4 to 16 years old Prepare and deliver exceptional day camp programming Ensure safety and well-being of campers Willing to work in indoor, outdoor and aquatic environments Be on your feet for the majority of the workday, walking, running, jumping, active playing. At locations that have pools or splash pads, staff are expected to be in the water with the children Participation in weekly staff meetings Follow all Health & Safety and Child Protection policies to keep the camp a safe place for all
  • What you need to succeed: Experience working with children in a Day Camp Setting Current Emergency First Aid or higher Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening as per cure A dedication to demonstrate the YMCA core values. Requirements

Candidates must have experience working with children in a day camp setting and possess a current Emergency First Aid certification. A clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is mandatory for employment.
