About the role

About the Role

We’koqma’q First Nation is seeking dedicated and caring Teacher’s Assistants to support classroom teachers in delivering high-quality, culturally responsive education. This role plays an important part in creating a positive learning environment and supporting student success.

The Teacher’s Assistant provides instructional support, assists with classroom management, and works directly with students to enhance their learning experience.

Key Responsibilities Assist teachers in preparing lesson materials and classroom activities Support individual students and small groups with learning activities Help maintain a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers Assist with classroom administrative tasks such as grading and record-keeping Supervise students during recess, lunch, and other school activities Collaborate with teachers and staff to support educational programming Participate in professional development opportunities

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in education or related field is preferred Experience working with children in an educational setting is an asset Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and students

Skills and Attributes Patient, caring, and supportive approach to working with children Strong organizational and time management skills Ability to follow direction and work as part of a team Creativity and flexibility in supporting student learning Respect for Mi’kmaw culture, traditions, and community values (asset) Commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment

Working Conditions Primarily classroom-based environment Occasional outdoor supervision and school activities Standard school hours, with occasional after-school meetings or events Physical activity may include standing for extended periods and assisting with student needs Minimal travel required, primarily for school-related events within the community
