Volunteer Position: Inclusive Family Sports Program Assistant – Aspire Athletics Club

  • Location: There will be two consecutive programs running. One in Kingston, ON and one in Napanee, ON (local school gymnasium – exact location

  • Schedule: 1-hour evening sessions held on Thursday evenings in Kingston and Tuesday evenings in Napanee. The Fall session will run from September 24 until December 10. Winter session to follow.

About Maltby Centre

For over 25 years, Maltby Centre has proudly supported children, youth, and families across Ontario with autism and children’s mental health services. As part of our commitment to inclusive, family-focused community programming, we are launching an exciting new initiative—the Aspire Athletics Club.

About the Aspire Athletics Club

The Aspire Athletics Club is a 12-week inclusive sports program for children aged 7–12 and their caregivers. Designed especially for neurodiverse children, including those with autism and sensory processing differences, this evening program encourages physical literacy, teamwork, and social interaction in a safe, accessible environment.

Volunteer Opportunity

We are seeking four (4) enthusiastic and reliable volunteers to help facilitate sessions and support participants throughout the program. This is an ideal opportunity for individuals passionate about inclusion, child development, recreation, or education. No honorarium is available for this opportunity.

  • Key Responsibilities
  • Assist or lead basic sports and movement activities (e.g., games, yoga, skill-building exercises)
  • Help with session setup, cleanup, and overall safety monitoring
  • Support and encourage children and caregivers with empathy and inclusivity
  • Collaborate with Maltby Centre Autism staff providing in-session coaching and adaptive supports

Qualifications

  • Interest or experience in recreation, education, child development, or disability support
  • Positive, patient, and inclusive attitude toward working with children and families
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic, family-focused environment
  • Must be available for all scheduled program sessions during the 8-week term
  • Ability to competently lead and coach sporting activities

Requirements

  • Completion of mandatory training (provided by Maltby Centre)
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (CPIC), costs covered by the Maltby Centre
  • Minimum age: 16+
