Provide experiences that foster students’ aesthetic/artistic, emotional, social, cultural, intellectual, and physical development.
Collaborate with fellow teachers on Smart Goals, IEPs, IBPs, Safety Plans, attendance, report cards, and interim reports.
Deliver curriculum aligned with BC Curricular Content and Competencies.
Complete and adhere to yearly overviews submitted to the Vice Principal.
Manage time between grade-specific instruction and combined class instruction.
Assist and team teach in other classes and support Language and Culture programming as needed.
Support student learning through intervention strategies.
Prepare and implement IEPs and IBPs; maintain records and progress reports.
Assess student progress and recommend program changes to ensure IEP goals are met.
Ensure student work and corrections are completed; follow up on missed work due to absences.
Supervise and manage the classroom; supervise field trips and other supervision duties.
Develop and deliver unit plans inclusive of syilx/sqilxw knowledge and land-based learning when applicable.
Implement a student-centered learning program that enhances explicit school programs.
Implement positive discipline and manage student incidents through conflict management.
Complete administrative duties including report cards, interim reports, and required testing/progress monitoring.
Attend staff meetings, team-based meetings, required language classes, and professional development days.
Take attendance daily and document daily notes.
Communicate regularly with parents about student behaviours and progress.
Follow OKIB policies and procedures and complete required reports (e.g., First Aid and Incident Reports).
Be physically able to attend work during school closures (regular school day) and assist with emergency services as required
Bachelor of Education (or equivalent).
Valid BC teaching certificate issued by the Teacher Regulation Branch.
Current First Aid/CPR certificate or willingness to obtain.
Valid BC driver’s license (Class 5) and reliable vehicle.
Demonstrated ability to teach at the elementary level.
Ability to teach split classes and team teach (grades K4-G7).
Experience working with First Nations preferred.
Cultural appropriateness and sensitivity toward OKIB and community.
Knowledge of content being taught and ability to plan meaningful instruction using BC curriculum.
Ability to use a variety of instructional strategies and learning resources.
Ability to create a classroom environment that supports learner differences.
Ability to establish respectful and empathetic relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
