The Early Childhood Education Program in the School of Education (Faculty of Education and Social Work) at Thompson Rivers University is seeking a sessional faculty member who will teach ECED 1200 (Practicum 1 – Developing Relationships with Children [3 credits]) in the Fall 2026 semester. ECED 1200 (Practicum 1 - Developing Relationships with Children): This is an innovative field practice course designed to allow students to apply the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to become an effective educator of young children. Students have repeated opportunities to practice observation and documentation techniques, prepare the learning environment, develop relationships with children, and guide behavior with the mentorship of early childhood educators and a practicum instructor. Students integrate theoretical knowledge, use reflective practice and demonstrate professional conduct.
A master’s degree in ECE or relevant field is required. For example, a relevant field could include Education, Childhood Studies, Child and Youth Care, or Curriculum Studies.
Evidence of a minimum of three years of knowledge and experience working with young children and families in a licensed early years program or primary classroom (birth to 8 years old).
Demonstrated knowledge of early years curriculum including pedagogical narrations and working with current early learning frameworks to develop innovative programs for young children.
Demonstrated expertise in the course topic areas.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated experience in integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 63)
