About the role

Structure and support online teaching and learning environments for course development as part of the Learning Technology and Innovation Unit.

Create student learning environments using document languages (XML/HTML, RSS, Wiki Markup or other formats) and TRU design standards/templates.

Coordinate with Instructional Designers on presentation, environment, models, and tools.

Compile courses using established course platforms/presentations.

Complete peer review of formatted materials to ensure quality.

Liaise with staff and faculty and collaborate with peers to analyze and resolve technical, communication, and media needs.

Maintain technical integrity of course materials within development and live delivery platforms; update print materials and provide master print files to Printshop; develop print-on-demand strategies.

Maintain TRU file management and version control standards across multiple servers and data repositories; maintain and update Open Learning databases.

Advise and provide technical support to other stakeholders/sections.

Ensure security of sensitive course material and maintain security of digital assets.

Test and evaluate new learning technologies for presentation platforms against established criteria.

Identify opportunities for workflow improvements to enhance efficiency and quality

Duties

  • The E-Learning Support Technician's key responsibility is to structure and support a variety of current and emerging environments for online teaching and learning as part of the Learning Technology and Innovation Unit under the direction of the Manager, Learning Technology and Innovation. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Creates Student Learning Environments by utilizing document languages (XML/HTML, RSS, Wiki Markup or other formats) to format and structure course content using TRU design standards and templates.
  • Coordinates with Instructional Designers to determine appropriate presentation, environment, model and tools.
  • Compiles courses using established course platforms/presentations.
  • Completes peer review of formatted materials to ensure quality of student materials.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor degree in a related program such as Computing Science, Digital Arts and Design, or Educational Technology EXPERIENCE:

Two years of directly related experience SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB

Skill in digital publishing, hand-coding HTML, CSS, and web development applications such as Wiki Markup, Word Press and Acrobat Pro

Demonstrated ability to maintain high levels of accuracy and thoroughness with attention to detail including analysis of issues in order to suggest, develop, and apply solutions

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences, and to recommend solutions to colleagues and stakeholders

Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, including the ability to document workflow processes regularly and the ability to work independently and as a team player

Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks

Willingness to learn and instruct others on new techniques related to job tasks

Strong working knowledge of word processing for large documents, particularly using Microsoft Word

Familiarity with document languages such as XML, Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Blackboard and Moodle, and syndication tools

Familiarity with conversion processes between different document languages

Familiarity with PHP

Knowledge of production and graphics applications such as MathType, Photoshop, Fireworks or Illustrator is desirable WORKING CONDITIONS

General office conditions The salary for the above position is determined by the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 4879, as it presently exists. Pay Band $30.68 - $34.09 ( CUPE Grade 08 (90% - 100%) ) Salary rate This Position is not subject to a 90% start rate for new Employees.
