  • We believe equity empowers each learner to thrive, holistically.</p><p><strong>American Sign Language (ASL) Instructor</strong></p><p>Under the general supervision of the School Principal and Director of Inclusive Education, the successful candidate will perform the duties of an ASL Instructor, which include, interpretation, tutor students, modify specialized teaching materials, compile and update student records and </p><p>monitor student behaviour.</p><p><strong>The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:</strong><strong><br></br></strong></p><ul><li>Applicants must have:</li><li>completed Grade 12 (Secondary School Graduation).</li><li>completed 2-year American Sign Language (ASL) program or equivalent.</li><li>minimum 6 months experience using ASL in group settings and/or </li></ul>completion of the Sign Language Instructor Program.<ul><li>strong interpersonal skills.<br></br></li><li>Applicants must be:</li><li>willing to work as part of a team.</li><li>fluent in American Sign Language (ASL).<br></br></li><li>Applicants will be expected to:</li><li>support the implementation of the BC Ministry of Education curriculum for American Sign Language.</li><li>support the development of communication skills for deaf and hard of hearing students in School District #23.</li><li>support the development of communication skills for students who use American Sign Language.</li><li>complete the required Health & Safety training.<br></br></li><li>Applicants may be expected to:</li><li>assist with lifting, feeding, personal care and supervision for other special needs students in the school as requested by the Resource Teacher.<br></br></li><li>The following would be considered an asset:</li><li>an LPI (Language Proficiency Interview) score of 10.</li><li>certification as an ASL Instructor.<br></br></li></ul><strong>The successful applicant will be </strong><strong>required</strong><strong> to</strong><strong> perform the following duties:</strong><ul><li><strong><u>Instructor</u></strong></li><li>ASL Instructor will assist the teacher by:</li></ul>(a) co-planning and co-instructing lessons according to the learning outcomes identified in the Ministry of Education American Sign Language (ASL) Integrated Resource Package (IRP);<p>(b) supplementing the existing and recommended materials as required;</p><p> c) co-planning and implementing the prescribed programs;</p><p>(d) scoring assignments, collecting marks and giving feedback, etc.</p><ul><li><strong><u>Student Assistance</u></strong></li><li>assist teacher by instructing/tutoring individual students or small groups under the supervision of the classroom teacher;</li><li>modify specialized teaching materials.</li><li><strong><u>Student Records</u></strong></li><li>assist teacher in the development of strategies to achieve academic, behavioural and social goals;</li><li>monitor and record students' progress.</li><li><strong><u>Student Supervision</u></strong></li><li>monitor student behaviour to ensure safety of the student and prevent student from hurting others;</li><li>assist in minor first aid and complete required forms.</li><li><strong><u>Communication</u></strong></li><li>communicate with students, staff and others, and provide information of a specialized nature;</li><li>encourage students to achieve social, academic and behavioural goal.</li></ul>This is a 10-month continuing position (35 hrs/week) with a wage rate of $32.37 per hour as well as a comprehensive benefits plan, including extended health and dental care, and participation in Municipal Pension Plan. <p>Successful applicants will be required to complete the District's Health & Safety training and consent to a Criminal Record Check.</p><p>Qualified candidates are invited to apply online at <a></a><u><a></a></u><u> </u>with cover letter and a detailed resume, including three (3) professional references (names, phone numbers and e-mail addresses) and copies of certifications by 4pm Tuesday, June 30, 2026.</p><p>W<i>e thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for interviews will be contacted.</i></p>
