Requirements summary

The role of Youth Wellness Worker (YWW) will contribute to the development and execution of programs that address issues youth face such as poverty, food insecurity, bullying, self image issues, etc.
The Worker will work in collaboration with the afterschool program Co-ordinator.
This YWW will play a key role in improving access to supports and strategies to increase overall physical and mental wellness.
The YWW will help to develop and implement new meal and snack planning with the participants.
They will take the lead with 196+ program for grade 9 students and foster an environment where participants can mentor younger peers.
They will thrive in a fast-paced environment, and will continuously seek improvement of the programs through different partnerships and collaborations.
Key responsibilities
Supervise youth (grades 6-9) in groups and individually in person (virtually as required)
Work with youth in various settings including the kitchen setting to promote independence, self-confidence, and comprehension using hands-on activities, both one-to-one and as a group
Escort youth to different locations within the building and on community excursions
Help youth to engage in social interaction with peers
Help youth to learn appropriate social behaviors and to be accountable for their decisions
Create a safe and supportive space for participants
Liaise with community resources and partners to improve health outcomes for youth
Maintain program statics
Establish an environment to sustain interest and promote positive interactions between participants
Teach youth the importance of following rules and regulations and sharing a common space
Work with youth to plan, carryout activities
Teach participants the fundamentals of self-care and coping strategies

Work safely, identify any health and safety concerns and report to management, and follow Mission Services workplace health and safety policies and procedures at all times.
Identify Child Welfare concerns and report these concerns to the Program Manager and the appropriate community agencies as required by the Child and Family Services Act.

Qualifications
Preference for a Bachelors’ degree (or equivalent) in social work, psychology, or a related human-service field
The ability to work with and relate to youth of diverse backgrounds
Demonstrated ability to think creatively to engage participants
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and effective oral/written communication skills
Experience working with people using a strength-based approach
Knowledge and understanding of Community Youth Services
Experience with Community/social services sector
Ability to mediate and resolve conflict
Hours of work
22.5 weekly with potential for additional hours to cover sick and vacation
Primarily afterschool hours, with additional availability required on weekends, PA Days, and during summer camp periods.

• Hourly wage starts at $23.43
