POSITION PURPOSE The Childcare Support Worker supports the daily supervision and care of children at the qʷayac̓iikʔiis Childcare Centre. Working under the direction of Early Childhood Educators and the Childcare Manager, this role assists with maintaining a safe, respectful, and engaging environment for children in a licensed childcare program. This role meets the requirements of a Responsible Adult under the BC Child Care Licensing Regulation. Unlike the ECEA role, this position does not require an ECEA certificate and operates under closer supervision from ECEs, with a focus on direct care support rather than developmental observation or individual support planning.

ACCOUNTABILITY Child Supervision Provide active and attentive supervision of children to ensure their safety and wellbeing at all times Support children in daily routines including meals, rest time, outdoor play, transitions, and personal care routines such as diapering and toileting Assist staff in maintaining appropriate staff-to-child ratios as required under the BC Child Care Licensing Regulation Support safe transitions between activities and program areas Program Support Support staff in facilitating play-based learning activities Engage positively with children through play, conversation, and encouragement Assist with setting up and maintaining safe learning environments Support inclusive practices that respect the individual needs, abilities, and backgrounds of all children Assist with preparing materials and maintaining organized learning environments Assist with daily program setup and closing routines Positive Guidance Model respectful behaviour and positive interactions with children Support children in developing social skills, emotional regulation, and cooperative play Health & Safety Follow childcare centre policies and procedures related to safety, hygiene, and supervision Assist with maintaining clean, safe, and sanitary childcare environments Report incidents, concerns, or safety issues to supervising staff Follow emergency procedures including fire drills, evacuation procedures, and other safety protocols Team Collaboration Work collaboratively with ECEs, ECEAs, and other staff to support daily program operations Communicate respectfully and professionally with colleagues and families Participate in staff meetings or training when required

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Required

  • Minimum 19 years of age Completion of a Responsible Adult course recognized by BC Child Care Licensing, or equivalent training First Aid and CPR (Emergency Child Care preferred) certification
