Job description
- Speech Language Pathologist (Contractor) The Athabasca Denesuline Education Authority (ADEA) is a First Nation Education Authority serving the three Denesuline First Nations communities in northern Saskatchewan; Black Lake First Nation, Hatchet Lake First Nation, and Fond Du Lac First Nation.
- The Authority serves a total student population of approximately 1,300+ students.
- The Authority is working toward improved educational outcomes by utilizing the latest technology, progressively piloting programs, and integrating Denesuline culture into the classroom and school curriculum.
- The ADEA is seeking a competent, confident, and motivated individual to fill the position of Speech Language Pathologist as a contractor at Father Megret Elementary and Highschool (FMES & FMHS) at Hatchet Lake, Saskatchewan.
- This contractor position will be scheduled for a 1 week shift per month.
- FMES is a Pre-K to Grade 5 facility with a student population of 200+ and FMHS is a Grade 6 to 12 facility with a student population of 350+, The two schools have a strong group of professional and paraprofessional staff.
- In this role, you will provide strong interpersonal skills, commitment to learning and teaching in project-based ways and provide an enthusiastic learning environment for students.
- Overview The Speech Language Pathologist will provide diagnostic and programming services for students with communication challenges.
- The speech language pathologist will also consult with teachers, administrators, parents, and other service providers when designing a program to help each student and oversee the process of the program.
Contract Summary
To complete communication skills assessments of pre-school and school aged children and interpret diagnostic treatment and education programming information to parents, students (where appropriate), teachers, and educational assistants. To monitor educational and treatment intervention and provide ongoing support and consultation to paraprofessionals delivering these programs and services. To actively participate in developing and delivering professional development in-services and workshops for school personnel, parents, students, and community professionals. To provide direct intervention services for children as required and to coordinate ongoing treatment with other professionals. Instructs the paraprofessional in the use of effective intervention strategies with the student(s) Provide recommendations and training on AAC.
Qualifications
Registered Speech Language Pathologist in good standing with the Saskatchewan Association of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists. (SASLPA) An understanding of Denesuline language and culture would be considered an asset. Willingness to travel 1 week at a time per month.
