About the role

Provide direct support to caregivers and children within their homes to achieve identified goals and establish healthy routines. Assist families in connecting with community resources and provide physical, emotional, and cultural development support.

FAMILY SUPPORTS - Direct Support Worker (Casual)

New Directions is a social service agency offering a wide range of resources and services that foster people’s hopes and dreams in their communities.

Family Supports (FS) is a branch of Child Home Services. Family Supports offers supports for care givers who are having difficulty navigating community resources, caring for their children/youth, requiring therapy (family or individual) and cultural services. We work with families to achieve goals, provide care giver breaks by working with children in the community, assist in establishing routines and healthy boundaries, as well as assisting with household chores/supports as outlined by care giver and Case Manager.

Job Responsibilities Include

  • (But are not limited to)
  • Take the lead from the family, and work alongside them in their family home
  • Work alongside families to achieve their identified goals
  • Support the family with connecting to their community, neighborhood and resources
  • Some supports may require toilet training, diaper changing and hygiene routines with children
  • Supporting the families' emotional, physical, and cultural development
  • Be a positive role model
  • Hours may vary (days/evenings/weekends/awake overnights). Shifts are typically 3-4 hours in length, 8-hour overnight shifts.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Preference will be given to candidates with post-secondary education in the area(s) of disability services, or Early Childhood Education
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with children
  • A Valid Class 5 Driver's License and access to a vehicle is required
  • Effective problem-solving ability & strong communication skills
  • The ability to work cohesively with others and be part of a team
  • First Aid/CPR and NVCI training will be provided

The starting salary range for all casual employees is $17.3239 per hour.

The successful candidate will be subject to Criminal Record and Adult/Child Abuse Registry Checks; and must supply a satisfactory driver’s abstract.

Operating a vehicle is an essential duty of this role. Candidates must hold a valid, active driver's license in good standing to be eligible for hire. Providing a copy of your license and/or your license number at this stage is voluntary. However, submitting this information upfront allows our team to verify your status, which can fast-track your application to the review stage.
