Job Description

Position Overview Scarborough Health Network Women and Children’s program is excited to offer a specialized orientation program to Registered Nurses (RNs), who are registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario, who are interested in pursuing a career in Neonatal Intensive Care. This enhanced program is designed to equip nurses with the essential skills and knowledge needed to excel in neonatal care. Reporting to the Patient Care Manager of Women and Children’s you will be responsible for providing excellent care to diverse patient populations within our multi-service environment. Our Women and Children’s Program is a patient focused total care model and you will provide high quality nursing care to patients and their families. The Registered Nurse (RN) role models’ clinical excellence and the core competencies of the practice standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), Critical Care Services Ontario (CCSO) Neonatal Nursing Technical Skills and Competencies, as well as the policies and procedures of Scarborough Health Network (SHN). The RN works collaboratively as a member of the health care team. The RN provides direct patient care to patients based on the three-factor framework as outlined in the College of Nurses of Ontario standard, RN Practice: The Client, Nurse and the Environment. These three factors have an impact on decision making related to care-provider assignment as well as the need for consultation and collaboration among care providers. All nurses make a commitment to lifelong learning.

Requirements

Current RN Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing Must have or be willing to complete the following required certifications and education: BCLS, NRP, Breastfeeding certification, and S.T.A.B.L.E. within the first 3 months of hire. Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth. Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills Demonstrated leadership abilities and assessment skills Innovative and willing to learn Demonstrated excellence in communication, both written and verbal Demonstrated commitment to customer service and teamwork Demonstrates values consistent with SHN’s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation. Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area.
